Thank you to the Mississauga Arts Council for awarding us with a surprise MARTY for “Outstanding Community Engagement”!
The MARTY award was in recognition for our ability to adapt our programming to an ever changing environment during the height COVID-19 pandemic through digital initiatives like Meet the Orchestra and livestreamed concerts.
A word from Mike Douglas, Executive Director of the Mississauga Arts Council:
“It’s my pleasure now to present a Special Surprise award to an Arts organization that has done an outstanding job of engaging their community throughout the pandemic.
We saw numerous arts and culture organizations do a marvelous job of adapting during the pandemic; Visual Arts Mississauga became like TV Ontario, broadcasting arts classes, the Art Gallery kept right on working throughout and Heritage Mississauga didn’t miss a beat.
But for this special MARTY Award for Outstanding Community Engagement, We’d like you to help us recognize an organization facing many challenges, with a hundred performers, dozens of instruments to store, with a closed theatre and no rehearsal space – The Mississauga Symphony Orchestra has responded to the damn pandemic with creative flourish and innovative initiatives, that inspired their performers and appealed to their loyal fans and followers, in this, their 50th anniversary year, as one of Canada’s great orchestras.
Happy birthday MSO, you have long set the standard for community orchestras across Canada, and inspired your colleagues in Mississauga.”
On the same evening, MSO board member and former General Manager ,Paul Eck, was awarded with the Mississauga Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award! A hearty congratulations to you, Paul!
Thank you, MAC, for the recognition and support.
