Meet Marina Salis and Alexander Cappellazzo, the incredible soloists that will join the Mississauga Symphony for A Merry Little Christmas on Saturday, December 14 at 7:30PM!
Marina Salis
Marina is absolutely thrilled to once again be under the baton of Maestro Denis Mastromonaco.
At the age of 26, Marina has developed her triple threat skill set over the past 20 years, bringing her passion of music, dance, and acting across the globe. Some of her most notable performances include playing The Baker’s Wife at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival’s production of Into the Woods and Mimi in Rent with Hamilton Theatre Inc.
Aside from her passion for music, Marina pursues her second passion as a biomedical ethicist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, specializing in mental health and substance use ethics.
Though her powerful voice speaks for itself, Marina owes much of her gratitude to her vocal coach, Jennifer Tung, who has nurtured and helped grow her talent and artistry over many years.
Marina would like to thank the Maestro and the Orchestra for the opportunity to perform with them and is excited to bring you some familiar hits.
Alexander Cappellazzo
Born on the auspicious Feast Day of Bach, Handel and Purcell, it was surely fated that Alexander Cappellazzo would immerse himself in music!
With “clarity and richness of voice” (Opera Canada), “force and strength” (National Capital Opera Society) and a “rich, well-rounded tenor” (Stage Door), “Alex also sings without guile, throwing himself into his programs fearlessly. ” (Barcza Blog).
From Handel, Bach & Mozart, to Wagner, Orff & Smetana, Alexander has performed roles including Tamino, Nemorino, Lensky, Acis, Don Ottavio, and Oronte to name a few. Alexander sings with opera companies across Canada including: VOICEBOX: Opera In Concert, Toronto City Opera, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Opera By Request, OperOttawa, Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, and the Cultureland Opera Collective; and with choirs including the Trinity Bach Project, Oakville Choral Society, Toronto Choral Society, Jubilate Singers, Brott Music Festival, and Metropolitan United Church.
In 2022, Alexander founded Apocryphonia and the Diapente Renaissance Vocal Quintet, dedicated to live performances of rare and underperformed classical music such as Renaissance Mexican Christmas music, Azerbaijani opera arias, and Norfolk sailor songs. Since starting, Alexander has produced fourteen concerts, providing unpretentious and affordable cultural events across the GTA.
Alex holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Opera from Montreal’s McGill University and is a member of the Ralph Vaughan Williams Society. Alexander is an avid cinephile, and currently lives in Scarborough with his wife, son, and their cat.
