JOB DESCRIPTION
Orchestras Mississauga is looking for a highly motivated, results-driven Fundraising Professional to lead our development efforts. This role encompasses all aspects of fundraising and development, including organizing fundraising events, securing sponsorships, and expanding our network of corporate, governmental, and individual supporters.
The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraising and development professional with exceptional relationship-building skills and a strong commitment to the organization’s mission. They are a collaborative team player with a passion for live orchestral music and a creative approach to building partnerships.
This part-time position (25 hours/week) requires in-office presence at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, with flexibility for external meetings with sponsors, donors, and other stakeholders as needed.
ABOUT ORCHESTRAS MISSISSAUGA
Orchestras Mississauga (OM) is a not-for-profit arts organization and a registered charity that was founded in 1972. The largest performing arts organization in Mississauga, OM consists of two ensembles led by Music Director Denis Mastromonaco:
Mississauga Symphony Orchestra (MSO): A community-based symphonic orchestra that comprises 85+ volunteer musicians with a paid professional core of 14 principals. The MSO performs 8–10 concerts annually.
Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO): A vibrant youth orchestra with over 150 members aged 8-21, that is organized into 2 or 3 smaller orchestras depending on age and skills.
Both orchestras engage in additional community events and run-outs, enriching the cultural fabric of Mississauga.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Fundraising and Development reports to the Managing Director and works closely with staff, the Board, and the Fundraising Committee to achieve revenue goals, support artistic initiatives, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. This role also involves timely and accurate reporting.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas of focus:
Fundraising Planning: Create and implement strategies to achieve fundraising goals with a focus on relationship-building, stewardship, and major gifts and planned giving.
Stewardship & Major Gifts: Strengthen relationships with current patrons, enhance stewardship efforts, and grow the portfolio of major and planned gifts.
Donor Development: Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors, building a robust pipeline of supporters.
Endowments & Planned Giving: Develop and implement education strategies to grow endowment funds and planned giving, with a focus on increasing long-term donor support and legacy gifts.
Campaign Leadership: Lead campaigns, special events, and initiatives such as building our Opera Fund.
Grant Support: Research, write, and track grant applications, working in collaboration with the Managing Director.
Volunteer Management: Coordinate and nurture relationships with volunteer groups, such as the Book Sale Committee, C-Gaming volunteers, MSYO parents and others to ensure engagement and alignment with organizational goals, and ensure reporting on time.
Database Management: Oversee donor data, recognition, and reporting.
Community Engagement: Represent the organization at performances, donor events, and community activities, strengthening ties within Mississauga and the broader GTHA.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Experience: 3–5 years of fundraising experience, ideally in the performing arts sector.
Relationship Building: Proven ability to cultivate relationships with various stakeholders.
Strategic Thinking: Skilled in creating and executing fundraising plans and meeting financial goals.
Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with social media platforms, Excel, project management and donor management software or ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly.
Donor-Centric Approach: Committed to understanding and prioritizing donor needs and maintaining a high standard of donor stewardship.
Ethics and Integrity: High ethical standards and integrity in all professional interactions.
Motivation: Self-starter with a results-oriented mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Passion for the Arts: Enthusiasm for classical music and the performing arts is an asset.
Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for concerts and events.
COMPENSATION
$30–$40/hr based on experience, averaging 25 hours per week.
